Chapter 5

Red Queens was a nightclub a few blocks away from the company’s building. Usually, company heads took visitors and potential clients there to woo them into all sorts of agreements.

I had never been here on my own though Maxwell had invited me severally. It was way too "out there" for someone like me, but there I was, in her red Mustang, the one I thought was a mirage and we were heading to the very place that was notorious for being exotic and full of sin.

Her car smelled just as she does, and the seats were drenched in her scent, the scent that never seemed to wear off and was peculiar to no one but her. It didn’t seem to rub off on anyone as well, despite even prolonged exposure, she was mystical, she was fiction.

At the end of the uncomfortable silent drive to the Red Queen, we exited the car, and I noticed the exterior of the building was pitch black, as well as its surroundings. It was all so silent, quiet like a grave, but I knew better.

I knew what went on inside. As soon as the doors are unlocked, it was a completely different world. As we walked toward the doors of the Red Queen, we found the doors unattended and no suited security guards around. Apparently, there was no one very important inside. Therefore, we walked in, and as Aurora pushed open the door with relative ease, the music was unleashed, and the purple neon lights assaulted my eyes.

I became jittery. Crazy as I was becoming, it was a different experience for me. It was a lot more than I've had in years.

As we were about to enter, she squeezed my hand, pulling me in with her. The next thing I knew, my life progressed as a series of flashes.

First thing I could see were people. People everywhere, dancing mindlessly with music so loud I couldn’t form a clear thought. I saw flashes of light, but it was not enough to identify anything.

I knew they were a lot of people, but it all felt hypnotic. I wanted to let myself go and enjoy the night with Aurora, I wanted to, but I had to get something to drink first.

After I had taken a few shots, I noticed Aurora was no longer by my side.

I looked around, and then in the quick flutters of the incandescent light bulbs and neon paint, I saw her. She was seated in the center of the room. She had become the Red Queen!!

The nightclub got its popular name from its practice of crowning its most “turnt” female dancer and making her the queen of the night. Right then, Aurora ruled the world, and everyone willingly threw themselves at her.

A few more flashes and I could see bodies sprawled across from her. She was kissing their necks from what I could see, and they liked it. Was I jealous? No, I was weirdly excited!

I grabbed another drink my eye could catch with the little light I had been offered.
